Eliud Owalo has officially been confirmed as the new patron of Gor Mahia Football Club, following the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga late last month.

In a statement, the club announced that Owalo’s appointment takes effect from November 1, 2025.

“Further to the press release dated October 16, 2025, regarding the notice of assumption by then club deputy patron Hon. Eliud Owalo as acting club patron, this is to formally notify the general public, the football fraternity, Gor Mahia members, and fans that the club has confirmed the appointment of Hon. Eliud Owalo as the substantive club patron with effect from November 1, 2025,” said club chairman Ambrose Rachier.

Owalo had initially been appointed as the acting patron on October 16, a day after Odinga’s demise.

Until then, he served as the deputy patron, actively supporting various club initiatives.

A lifelong supporter of the team, Owalo has been instrumental in several of Gor Mahia’s recent developments, including the purchase of the club’s new bus.

During Kenya’s participation in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in August, the former Cabinet Secretary also played a key role in player recruitment, personally engaging with new signings before their official unveiling.

Among those he helped bring on board are goalkeeper Byrne Omondi (from Bandari), Mike Kibwage, Siraj Mohammed, and Lewis Bandi (from AFC Leopards).
