DCP women leaders allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to arrest National Assembly Majority Leader and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah over remarks they say disrespected Gachagua’s wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.

Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, July 22, the women, under the DCP (Democratic Change Party) banner, expressed outrage over a video circulating on social media in which Ichung’wah mocked Gachagua’s popular “wantam” slogan and made personal comments about his marriage.

In the clip, Ichung’wah downplayed the slogan as a mere household catchphrase and suggested Gachagua was too focused on politics to pay attention to his family comments that have since sparked backlash online.

DCP leader Moraa John strongly condemned Ichung’wah’s remarks, accusing him of targeting women leaders and using personal attacks to discredit their work.

“We believe these comments were not just about Pastor Dorcas they reflect a deeper disrespect toward women in leadership,” said Moraa. “We are calling on the DCI to apply the same energy they’ve used in other cases and arrest Kimani Ichung’wah.”

Another DCP leader, Njeri Kahiga, described Ichung’wah’s words as “reckless and shameful,” especially considering Pastor Dorcas’s efforts in mental health advocacy, supporting widows and orphans, and helping vulnerable boys.

“Pastor Dorcas has earned national respect through her work. To drag her name into petty political feuds is simply unacceptable,” said Kahiga. “True leadership calls for dignity and respect, even in disagreement.”

The women leaders are also demanding that the Kikuyu MP issue a public apology and retract his statements.
