Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has called on residents of Mt Kenya East to remain united behind President William Ruto and Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, saying regional cohesion is critical for sustained development and political stability.

Speaking during a church service at PCEA Chogoria Town Church, held in honour of outgoing Reverend Amos Kimau, Ruku said the government is optimistic that the proposed Infrastructure Fund Bill will be debated and passed by Parliament in February, enabling financing of major development projects across the country.

“The fund is designed to support large, capital-intensive projects that cannot be adequately financed through the normal budgetary process,” Ruku said, highlighting flagship initiatives such as the dualling of the Makutano–Embu–Meru highway and the construction of large dams to support irrigation and enhance food security.

Ruku said Kenyans should begin seeing tangible results from the Infrastructure Fund from June, with early gains including expanded electricity connectivity, which will lower business costs and stimulate economic growth.

The Cabinet Secretary praised the current leadership arrangement, saying it has strengthened cooperation within government, and contrasted the support of Prof. Kindiki with the alleged uncooperative stance of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

He warned residents against backing opposition forces, claiming such moves would weaken the Deputy President, whom he described as “a son of Tharaka Nithi.” Ruku dismissed claims of strong national resistance to President Ruto’s re-election, saying opposition is largely limited to parts of Mt Kenya, while the rest of the country continues to support the leadership.

Ruku also said Prof. Kindiki has the capacity to contest for the presidency in 2032, but noted that this would require strong backing from his home region. He urged residents to rally behind the government to secure continued development and political relevance.
