Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Hassan Ali Joho has taken Kenya’s mining story to the global stage, pitching the country as a fast-rising destination for responsible and profitable mining.

Joho was speaking on the sidelines of the Mining Indaba Conference in Cape Town, South Africa, where he met international investors and industry players.

He said Kenya is no longer just sitting on untapped mineral wealth, but is now building a mining sector that supports local jobs, value addition and community development.

“Our goal is not just to export raw minerals. We want to process them here, grow industries and make sure Kenyans benefit directly,” Joho said.

The Cabinet Secretary noted that government reforms are helping to make the sector more transparent, investor-friendly and environmentally responsible.

He was accompanied by Kenya’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Jane Ndurumo, Principal Secretary for Mining Harry Kimtai, and senior officials from the ministry.

The Mining Indaba brings together top investors, policymakers and mining companies from across the world, offering Kenya a chance to attract new partnerships and expand its footprint in the global minerals market.
