The Ministry of Health has pledged to expedite the titling of hospital facilities nationwide as part of efforts to safeguard public land and enhance healthcare infrastructure.

Speaking during an official visit to the Kericho County Referral Hospital (Level 5), Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that all health institutions under the ministry’s jurisdiction acquire legal land ownership documents.

He noted that securing title deeds will protect public health facilities from land encroachment and opportunistic land grabbing.

During the visit, Duale presented the official title deed to the Kericho County Referral Hospital and commended the facility for its notable progress, particularly in neonatal care.

He emphasized the urgent need to expand specialist medical training and capacity building to strengthen healthcare delivery across the country.

Duale applauded Kericho County for its impressive uptake of the Social Health Authority (SHA) program, with over 390,000 residents enrolled.

The Kericho County Referral Hospital currently serves approximately 1.5 million people, including patients from neighboring counties.

The CS also highlighted ongoing national health reforms, including the digitization of services and the deployment of disease surveillance vehicles across all 47 counties.

Governor Erick Mutai and Senator Aaron Cheruiyot used the occasion to appeal for national government support in completing the construction of a 260-bed Non-Communicable Disease Centre (NCDC) at the hospital.

Once completed, the facility is expected to be a cornerstone of Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) strategy. It will feature seven state-of-the-art operating theatres and intensive care units (ICUs) equipped with integrated dialysis machines.

Other leaders present at the event included Kipkelion East MP Joseph Kirui and Ainamoi MP Benjamin Kipkirui, who echoed the call for continued national investment in regional health infrastructure.
