The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has achieved a significant victory in the fight against narcotics, securing the conviction of Joyce Akinyi and two others in a high-profile drug trafficking case.
The judgment was delivered at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) courts earlier today.
Prosecutors Norah Achieng, Annette Wangia, and Faith Mwila presented compelling evidence implicating Akinyi and her accomplices, Paulin Kalala, a Congolese national, and Peres Ochieng, in a meticulously coordinated transnational drug trafficking scheme.
The court found Akinyi guilty of trafficking narcotics as well as being in possession of a passport without providing a reasonable explanation.
The judgment was delivered in the absence of Peres Ochieng, who absconded court proceedings after being placed on her defense.
Authorities are now pursuing her to ensure justice is fully served.
Sentencing for Akinyi and Kalala is scheduled for December 10, 2024.
