Professor Abraham Kithure Kindiki has officially been sworn in as Kenya’s third Deputy President.
Kindiki took the oath of office on Friday, November 1 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
The former Interior CS was guided through the oath-taking by Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Winfridah Boyani Mokaya in the presence of President William Ruto and Chief Justice Martha Koome, among other dignitaries.
"I, Kithure Kindiki, in full realisation of the high calling, I assume as the deputy president of the republic of Kenya, do swear, that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the republic of Kenya, that I will obey, preserve, protect and defend this constitution of Kenya as by law established and all other laws of the republic, and that I will protect, and uphold the sovereignty, integrity and dignity of the people of Kenya, so Help me God," Kindiki affirmed.
After the oath, President Ruto gave a copy of the Kenyan Constitution to Kindiki.
Kindiki now officially takes over the office which fell vacant following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua a few weeks ago.
His inauguration comes a day after the High Court lifted conservatory orders that had blocked Kindiki from assuming the Office of the Deputy President.
