The Council of Governors (CoG) has dismissed claims by the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) that 136 children have died in Kiambu County as a result of the ongoing doctors’ strike.

Giving an address at a meeting in Nairobi, CoG Chair and Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi called the allegations as one of the propaganda that health services in Kiambu are still on.

He defended Governor Kimani Wamatangi, letting go of the idea that governors should be suppressed and not given the freedom to deliver on their constitutional mandate.

Simultaneously, the council gave Abdullahi a second term as its chairperson in a unanimous vote while Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga was re-elected as vice chairperson.

Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki was appointed as the new CoG Whip, replacing Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, who is now chairing the Resource Mobilization and Partnerships Committee.

The governors also alleged that the Electronic Government Procurement system has been the cause of the delay in county operations as no devolved unit has successfully procured services through it.
