The Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, Guo Haiyan, has described President William Ruto’s recent state visit to China as a “major success,” signaling a new era in the strategic partnership between Nairobi and Beijing.
Speaking during a press conference in Nairobi, Ambassador Guo revealed that the visit, made at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, resulted in the signing of several cooperation agreements between the two countries. These deals, she said, laid a solid foundation for deeper bilateral relations and long-term mutual prosperity.
“The strategic mutual trust between Kenya and China has reached new heights,” Ambassador Guo stated, noting that both countries are committed to expanding the scope and depth of their collaboration.
According to the envoy, the signed agreements cover a wide range of sectors, including infrastructure, trade and investment, digital economy, finance, education, and talent development. She emphasized that these partnerships are aimed at delivering tangible benefits for both nations and promoting inclusive growth.
Ambassador Guo also affirmed China’s readiness to strengthen regular policy communication with Kenya, improve connectivity, diversify financial cooperation, and promote sustainable trade. “We are looking to deepen our cooperation and foster a lasting friendship that will benefit future generations,” she said.
In a strongly worded statement, the ambassador criticized what Beijing calls “blackmail” by the United States in its ongoing trade dispute with China, reiterating China’s firm opposition to external pressure tactics.
President Ruto’s visit to China marks a significant step in Kenya’s foreign policy approach, reflecting a continued pivot towards enhanced engagement with Beijing amid shifting global dynamics.
