An autopsy has revealed that GSU officer Ramadhan Mattanka, who was killed at State House, Nairobi, on Monday, died from excessive bleeding caused by an arrow wound.

The report, released on Tuesday, October 14, showed that the arrow pierced through Mattanka’s left ribs, tore into his lung, and punctured his heart, leading to heavy internal bleeding that claimed his life within minutes.

The officer, who was manning Gate D at State House, was shot by a man identified as Kithuka, who allegedly tried to gain entry into the compound while pretending to be a street dweller.

According to police, the suspect carried a sack hiding a bow and arrows. After being dismissed by officers on duty, he reportedly waited nearby and struck when two officers got distracted by a vehicle inspection.

Mattanka was brought to Kenyatta National Hospital, where physicians confirmed him dead upon admission.

The slain officer, who was Muslim, will be buried this afternoon at Kajiado County. His funeral was delayed temporarily earlier after detectives requested time to carry out significant forensic tests.

In reports, CCTV captured a 17-minute conversation between Mattanka and his attacker before the attack, suggesting that the two might have known each other. Investigators are now investigating whether the murder may have been provoked by a personal feud.

Police are also investigating security protocols in light of the attack, which raised valid questions regarding how a weapon-wielding attacker was able to move on one of the country’s most heavily secured targets.

The killing of the GSU officer at State House has shocked many across the country, with calls for tighter security and mental health checks for officers working in high-stress environments.
