The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has officially announced the second phase of its grassroots elections, set to take place on April 11 and 12, 2025, across 22 counties. UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire, while making the announcement, encouraged all interested candidates to register before the March 21 deadline through the party’s online portal UDA.ke.

This election marks a significant step in strengthening the party’s grassroots leadership, ensuring representation at the community level. So far, 113,800 candidates have registered to contest various positions in the upcoming polls. The elections will take place in Bungoma, Garissa, Isiolo, Kajiado, Kilifi, Kisii, Kisumu, Kitui, Kwale, Lamu, Machakos, Makueni, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Migori, Mombasa, Nyamira, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Tana River, and Turkana.

The National Steering Committee and the National Elections Board met to deliberate on the upcoming polls, reaffirming the party’s commitment to a transparent and fair electoral process. To facilitate a smooth election, UDA has procured over 10,000 digital gadgets to support a seamless, electronic voting system that guarantees free, fair, and efficient polling with instant results upon closure.

Speaking at a press briefing, Mbarire emphasized the importance of grassroots democracy, stating that empowering local leaders strengthens participatory governance. “These elections represent a pivotal moment in ensuring that the voices of our communities are heard and represented,” she said.The party has already successfully conducted elections in five counties, setting a precedent for the next phase.

UDA members and aspirants have been urged to actively participate in shaping the party’s future leadership as it gears up for national elections.With a digital voting framework in place, UDA aims to set a new standard for internal party democracy in Kenya, reinforcing transparency, accountability, and inclusivity at all levels of governance.
