The Archdiocese of Nairobi has issued a strong call to action following a surge in gruesome murders of women across Kenya.
In a pastoral letter addressed to clergy, religious members, Christians, and all people of goodwill, Auxiliary Bishop Simon Peter Kamomoe emphasized the urgent need to safeguard women and uphold their human rights.
“Our society is judged by how it treats its most vulnerable members. Our sisters and mothers, who are among the most vulnerable require our protection and deserve to feel safe rather than live in fear for their lives” Said Rev. Simon Kamomoe
Partnering with the State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action, the Archdiocese urged society to act as “our sister’s keeper,” citing the Gospel of Matthew 7:15: “You will know them by their fruits.”
The letter highlighted the moral duty to protect the most vulnerable members of society, particularly women and children.
Parents were specifically reminded to ensure their children’s safety during the long holidays, as many are left home alone.
The Archdiocese called on communities to take personal responsibility, report suspicious activities, and encourage vigilance to curb gender-based violence and femicide.
“This is a reflection of our Christian values of love and respect for one another,” the letter stated, urging everyone to join hands in ending violence against women.
The Church underscored the importance of collective action, with Bishop Kamomoe concluding, “Together, we can work to end gender-based violence in our society.”
