The 2025 Academy Awards ceremony, held in Los Angeles, was a night of triumph for Anora, which dominated the evening by winning several top honors, including Best Picture, Best Director for Sean Baker, and Best Actress for Mikey Madison.

Other notable films also received recognition, with The Brutalist earning Best Actor for Adrien Brody and Best Cinematography, and Emilia Pérez taking home the Best Supporting Actress award for Zoe Saldaña. The Best International Feature award went to I’m Still Here from Brazil, while the Best Animated Feature category was claimed by Flow. Anora continued its success by winning Best Original Screenplay for Sean Baker, Best Film Editing, and Best Original Song for El Mal from Emilia Pérez.

Dune: Part Two stood out in the technical categories, winning Best Sound and Best Visual Effects, while Wicked won Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. The Brutalist was also honored for its powerful Original Score, and No Other Land took home the Best Documentary Feature award. Other notable awards included The Substance for Best Make-Up and Hairstyling, Conclave for Best Adapted Screenplay, and The Only Girl in the Orchestra for Best Documentary Short. The live-action short film category was dominated by I’m Not a Robot, while In the Shadow of the Cypress won Best Animated Short.

The night celebrated a wide variety of films, from Anora’s sweeping success to Dune: Part Two’s visual and technical achievements, illustrating the diversity and creativity that defined the year’s cinematic landscape.
