Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has expressed deep sorrow following the passing of His Highness the Aga Khan, describing him as a lifelong friend, visionary leader, and tireless advocate for humanity.
In a heartfelt statement, Uhuru reflected on his strong bond with the Aga Khan, a relationship that began during his childhood days under the leadership of Sir Ibu Pirbhai, then head of the Ismaili community in Kenya. This connection remained steadfast throughout Uhuru’s presidency and beyond.
“The Aga Khan was more than just a friend; he was like a brother, a confidant, and a partner in the mission to uplift the lives of many,” Uhuru said. He further emphasized their shared commitment to improving education, healthcare, and global welfare.
“His visionary leadership in the healthcare sector has saved countless lives. The Aga Khan University Hospital and its network of facilities remain a testament to his enduring legacy of compassion and excellence,” he added, praising the Aga Khan’s significant contributions to the betterment of society, particularly in education and healthcare.
Uhuru also commended the Aga Khan for his role in bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to work toward common causes. The former president recalled their numerous joint initiatives, particularly in education, and expressed admiration for the Aga Khan’s ability to unite people for a shared vision.
Extending his condolences to the Ismaili community worldwide, Uhuru acknowledged the Aga Khan’s profound influence as a spiritual guide and an inspiration to millions.
“As we say goodbye to this incredible man, let’s recall his strong faith in humanity’s potential for greatness. The positive impact he had on so many lives will ensure his legacy endures,” said Uhuru.
In closing, Uhuru called on those mourning the Aga Khan to honor his memory by continuing his work and fostering unity. “May Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace.”
