Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has called on President William Ruto to address the growing financial challenges facing Kenyans or risk losing public support.
Speaking at the launch of the first-ever bonus payments to sugarcane farmers in Mumias, Kakamega County, Salasya urged the President to seek more trustworthy allies, claiming that some Kenya Kwanza leaders were providing misleading advice to the Head of State.
“I want us to ask one thing: where is the money we are giving these farmers coming from? We need to know because it wasn’t in our budget,” the outspoken MP said.
He added, “When you involve stakeholders, things will work. We never involve stakeholders in public health decisions. Mr. President, hire me as your advisor because your people are not being honest with you.”
Salasya further alleged that cartels within the government were undermining the President’s leadership and could jeopardize his legacy.
He claimed that these groups were misleading the President about various government programs, including the Social Health Authority (SHA) and the new university funding model.
“They’re telling you SHA is working when it’s not. The new university funding model is not working. I know you have the heart to help the country, but there are cartels and traitors within your government who don’t want you to know the truth,” Salasya lamented.
He also addressed the recent changes to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and urged the President to reduce the financial burden on ordinary Kenyans.
“Mr. President, I want you to take me as your advisor and pay me because your people aren’t telling you the truth. They say SHA is working, but it’s not,” he said.
Salasya reiterated that focusing on the needs of ordinary citizens could improve President Ruto’s chances of securing re-election.
“If you do that, I will support you,” he added.
