Mary Cynthia Ochieng is a woman of remarkable strength. A teacher by profession, she has spent her life nurturing young minds in secondary school.

At home, she is a devoted wife and the proud mother of two children. Yet, behind her gentle smile lies a story of resilience and a fight for survival. In 2017, Mary’s life took an unexpected turn.

After enduring unexplained symptoms for some time, she was diagnosed with a rare and severe lung condition called interstitial lung disease .

Her health deteriorated rapidly, leaving her dependent on oxygen 24/7.The oxygen concentrator, which requires a constant power supply, became her lifeline. When power cuts occur, she has to rely on portable oxygen tanks, adding yet another layer of difficulty to her already challenging life.

Living in Kenya, Mary’s condition is not only physically demanding but also financially draining. A lung transplant is her only hope for survival, and the procedure must be carried out in India.

The cost is overwhelming, estimated at 8 million Kenyan shillings. Despite her determination, fundraising efforts have yielded only 80,000 shillings so far—a far cry from what is needed.

Mary’s friends and family have rallied around her, sharing her story and appealing to the community for support.

“Imagine living every moment tethered to a machine,” they say. Her struggle isn’t just about her health; it’s a testament to the strength of human spirit and the importance of compassion.

Despite the pain and uncertainty, Mary remains grateful for the support she has received.

“It’s very, very hard, but we thank God,” she says, her voice filled with both hope and fatigue. She believes that God will bless those who have contributed to her cause, expanding their territories and rewarding their kindness.

Mary Cynthia Ochieng’s story is a powerful reminder of the fragility of life and the strength that lies within us to overcome the toughest challenges.

It is also a call to action for those who can help her reclaim her life and continue being the mother, wife, and teacher she has always been.

Her journey is not over, and with the support of a compassionate community, she hopes to rewrite her story—a story of survival, hope, and triumph.
