Investment, Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui has criticized remarks attributed to Mukurwe-ini Member of Parliament (MP) Hon. John Kaguchia, describing them as reckless, inciteful and regrettable.
He has warned such profiling endangers the voters and the fragility of Kenya’s democratic space, leading to devastating consequences.
“No person should be punished for their political opinion. Expressing one’s choice is the very essence of democracy. Decisions must be free of coercion or any form of intimidation,” Kinyanjui said.
Kinyanjui has warned such remarks may trigger voter profiling and ethnic targeting, as this is an indication of how short a memory we possess leading to electoral violence in the nation.
CS Kinyanjui’s remarks follow after the arrest of Kaguchia by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on Monday morning of August 3, 2026, after he spent the night at Royal Media Services.
