Karatina University has been closed indefinitely following students’ demonstrations outside the learning institution in Gitunduti and One Kilometer area.
The students took to the streets in protest of rent and fare hikes, among other issues they deemed unfair.
Following the closure, the university said the First Semester of 2024/2025 Academic Year activities had been suspended effective Wednesday, September 25.
The institution asked all students to vacate the university premises with immediate effect, latest 3pm.
"All students residing in the university halls of residence should vacate today, Wednesday. Students residing in the neighbourhood of the University are advised to seek alternative accommodation until things normalize," read an internal memo from the school.
