Information and Communication Technology Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo is in Paris, France representing Kenya at the G7+ Digital and Tech Ministerial dialogue focused on cybersecurity challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Kabogo said Kenya recognises the enormous opportunities presented by AI, while also warning that the technology is lowering barriers for cybercrime, deepfake-enabled fraud, and malicious digital attacks at an unprecedented scale.
During the high- level segment, Kenya urged for enhanced cooperation on defensive artificial intelligence, secure digital infrastructure, real time cybersecurity threat sharing, as well as coupling of resilience, sharing between developed and developing countries.
Kenya also participated in the debate on online child protection and strengthening democratic resilience in the age of AI, which Kabogo noted was more than a technology issue; it was a public policy challenge that demanded a response from regulators governments educators, industry, and citizens.
“I emphasised that the protection of children online is not simply a technology question, but a public policy obligation requiring coordinated action across governments, regulators, educators, industry and civil society.”
The Cabinet Secretary also underlined the importance of an all-encompassing international digital governance system capturing the situations of new digital societies, Especially Africa’s growing digital population.
Kenya argued that as AI systems and digital platforms have an ever more profound effect on public discussion, elections, and the granting of access to information, international collaboration on online safety and accountability for platforms, inclusion of low, resource languages, and governance of AI is an urgent matter.
“Kenya stands ready to work with global partners in shaping a safer, more trusted and inclusive digital future.” he added
Kabogo underlined Kenya’s commitment to collaborate with international partners in creating a safe trusted inclusive and fair digital future.
