Kenyan football fraternity is mourning the death of veteran coach Juma Abdalla, who passed away on Friday morning of July 24, 2026, after a prolonged battle of illness.
His death comes just weeks after his family and friends appealed to well-wishers for financial support to cater for his treatment after he was diagnosed with diabetes and pancreatic cancer, where his condition deteriorated, leaving unable to walk.
Abdalla left behind a remarkable journey of two decades of mentorship, respect, resilience and passion for the game.
He managed coached AFC Leopards, Thika United, KCB FC, Bidco United, Western Stima, FC Talanta, Murang’a Seal, Chemelil Sugar and Sofapaka.
His presence touched many, defined to discipline, tactical awareness and qualities that earned him respect from players and peers. Abdalla was known for nurturing young talent, with those who passed through his hands credited him for instilling professionalism and belief in their abilities.
He was appointed Sofapaka head coach in February 2026, before his dismissal, following the departure of coach Ezekiel Akwana. He will be remembered as a humble mentor and servant for Kenyan football.
Abdalla will be laid to rest on Friday July 24, 2026, in Murang’a town in accordance with Islamic rites.
