Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pledged free and fair nominations within the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) as the party begins positioning itself for the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua made the remarks after holding consultations with Kiambu gubernatorial aspirant John Mwaura, one of the party’s aspirants for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat, at his Wamunyoro residence.

The meeting focused on issues affecting Kiambu County, including economic development, financial inclusion, governance and strategies aimed at reviving regional economies.

“At Wamunyoro Residence, I held consultations with Hon. Mwaura, one of the Kiambu County DCP Party gubernatorial aspirants, on matters concerning Kiambu County,”he said in a statement.

According to Gachagua, the discussions also touched on the need to safeguard and strengthen devolution, which he described as critical to equitable development across the country.

The former Deputy President said the leaders also reflected on what he termed Kenya’s liberation cause and the role political leaders should play in shaping the country’s future.

As competition for elective positions within the opposition outfit gathers momentum, Gachagua assured the Kiambu gubernatorial hopeful of a level playing field during the party nomination process.

“I assured Hon. Mwaura of free and fair party primaries and encouraged him to continue popularizing the party at the grassroots ahead of the August 10, 2027 polls,” Gachagua said.

His remarks are likely to reassure aspirants within DCP who have expressed interest in various elective positions as the party expands its presence across the country ahead of the next General Election.
