FIFA World Cup 2026 co-host Mexico becomes the first team to qualify for the round of 32 after a hard- fought 1-0 victory over South Korea in Guadalajara Stadium.

The win was sealed by goal from Luis Romo after half-time putting Mexico at three points. The game was tense, with South Korea pressing high while Mexico struggled to find its way but at the 50th minute, Romo pounced to score a goal.

Mexico’s victory has shown a progress in beating South Korea quality and saving the country from achieving its first round.

The Mexican goalkeeper Raul Rangel became the hero, pulling off a double save in the moment. The final whistle blow gave Mexico’s players a relief celebrating and securing a place in the knockout stage.

In the final round of group fixtures, Mexico will face Czechia in Mexico City, while South Korea plays South Africa in Monterrey.

The qualification is more than football but a national pride, to the country. Fans celebrated in the streets, waving flags, chanting and singing.
