Oscar -winning actor and comedian Jamie Foxx has spoken candidly about his near-death experience, revealing that he survived a brain bleed and stroke in 2023 a condition that doctors said only 3 % of patients recover from.
The 58-year-old said he has unfinished business and now he feels more creative than ever, three years after a health scare.
“I almost died. I was almost outta here. Stand-up comedy doesn’t come from an accomplished position…I went through some stuff and I’m gonna tell it as funny as I can, but as real as I can,” Foxx said.
In April 2023, Foxx was rushed to hospital after suffering a medical emergency while filming in Atlanta. He experienced a brain bleed that led to a stroke. He said the diagnosis left him fighting for survival.
“I went back to see those nurses that kept me alive,” Foxx recalled. She said, But Jamie, I’m gonna tell you something, you a miracle,” Foxx added.
He admitted that the ordeal changed his perspective on life and described moments of despair and fear, but also gratitude for the second chance he’s been given. He added his faith and family gave him strength when he felt he couldn’t go on.
Jamie Foxx is now stepping back into his career with his latest project, “Jamie Foxx: Take Care of Yourself,” which premieres on October 7 on Hulu and Hulu on Disney. It was filmed in Oakland, California.
Foxx said he has welcomed one of his daughters, Anelise, to share the special moment on stage.
“I will be on stage with my little one, with my daughter, to have her on stage with me rocking, showing her musical talents…but her showing her artistry, that feels good,” he said.
