The Government is funding the establishment of a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) campus in Karuri, Kiambaa Constituency, Kiambu County, to expand training opportunities for medical professionals.

Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki said the KMTC Karuri Campus will help increase the number of healthcare workers required to support the country’s Universal Health Care system.

Kindiki spoke on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, during an inspection of construction works at the project, which is expected to cost Sh200 million.

He said Sh70 million has already been allocated towards construction of the administration and tuition blocks, library facilities and skills laboratories.

The Deputy President noted that trained medical professionals will play a key role in providing facility-based healthcare to patients referred by Community Health Promoters (CHPs).

He said the Government, in partnership with county governments, has hired 107,000 CHPs over the past three years to strengthen healthcare delivery at the community level.

Separately, the Housing Fund will support the campus with a 580-bed student hostel at a cost of Sh290 million.
Kindiki pledged additional Government support to ensure the project is completed on time.

He was accompanied by Kiambaa MP John Kawanjiku, Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, MCAs, local leaders and representatives of the college.
