Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has expressed confidence that the Kenya Kwanza administration is firmly on track to fulfill its manifesto promises.

Addressing more than 5,000 coffee farmers and leaders from 24 cooperative societies during a consultative forum in Runyenjes, Embu County, Kindiki highlighted the positive outcomes of ongoing reforms in the agriculture sector.

“This season, coffee prices have soared to between KSh120 and KSh148 per kilogram of cherry—levels not seen in 35 years,” he noted.

The Deputy President further revealed that the government is streamlining the fertiliser subsidy programme specifically for coffee farmers.

He added that new laws governing the coffee industry and cooperative societies are in the pipeline and expected to be passed and signed into law within the next one to two months.

He also assured farmers that the government is fast-tracking the verification process of debts owed to coffee cooperative societies to ensure only genuine claims benefit from the KSh6.8 billion government debt waiver.

Additional interventions include the distribution of sufficient coffee seedlings, subsidised pesticides, and a bold coffee infrastructure modernization programme aimed at improving processing methods.

Kindiki added that the government has launched a vigorous global marketing campaign for Kenyan coffee after dismantling entrenched cartels that previously dominated the milling, brokerage, and marketing value chains.
