Export OpportunitiesKenya has welcomed the extension of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) to December 31 2028 after agreement made by the United States of America (USA) saying the move will give exporters, manufacturers and investors greater certainty.
In a statement issued on September 4, 2026, Investments, Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui said the extension is a significant development for Kenya, particularly for the textile and apparel sector.
The industry supports more than 66, 000 jobs directly, one of the largest consumers of preferential access to the USA Market under AGOA that Kenya has enjoyed.
Kinyanjui urged that during the extended time Kenya should be able to vary its export items and expand its portfolio as well as its products in the USA Market through diversification.
He identified value-added agricultural products, leather goods, pharmaceuticals, and manufactured goods areas with significant potential for growth.
According to the ministry, the government will continue to work closely with exporters and the private sector to ensure that more Kenyan businesses and value chains utilise AGOA to benefit from access to the U. S. Market.
The Cabinet Secretary said that AGOA should become a catalyst for Kenya’s industrialisation, value addition, investment and job creation.
