A 27-year-old man alleged to be a ringleader of a child trafficking and sexual abuse network has been presented before the Shanzu Law Courts by the detectives after a major operation in Mombasa County.

The accused, named as Almasi Rama Amos, was apprehended following a joint operation by officers from the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit (AHTCPU) and detectives from the Regional Criminal Investigations Office (RCIO) in Mombasa.

The officials working on the case disclosed that the suspect was traced to his hideout in Nguu Tatu Estate within the Concordia area of Kisauni Sub-County, where he was found with three female minors.

Detective work has unveiled that the suspect used to run some “rescue centres” in Mombasa and Kilifi counties which were, in reality, the covers under which girls were sexually exploited and abused. The suspect was charged with trafficking in persons and operating a child trafficking business.

After the suspect was arrested, he gave information leading the investigating officers to another facility in Ribe, Rabai Sub-County, where they found 19 more female minors. That means, 22 females who were rescued in total during the two rescue events were identified.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was denied bond by the court. The matter is scheduled for mention on June 8, 2026.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said it remains committed to protecting children from exploitation, abuse, and trafficking, warning that individuals involved in such crimes will be pursued and brought to justice.
