Moi Forces Academy-Lanet has made history by becoming the first national girls’ school in Kenya to introduce Aviation Technology as a subject.
The official launch, held on May 10, 2025, marked a significant milestone in promoting STEM education and empowering young women to pursue careers in the aviation industry.
Themed “Demystifying Aviation,” the event featured the unveiling of a fully functional training aircraft, which will provide hands-on learning opportunities for the over 50 students currently enrolled in the subject. The aircraft will serve as a practical tool to deepen the students’ understanding of aviation operations.
The event was graced by senior Kenya Defence Forces officials, including the Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Tarus who also serves as the school’s Chairperson of the Board of Management and the Commander Kenya Air Force, Major General Fatuma Ahmed.
Both leaders underscored the importance of Aviation Technology in preparing learners for future careers in aeronautical engineering, air traffic control, and aviation security.
Nakuru County education officials lauded the initiative, noting that it aligns with the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) focus of the Competency Based Curriculum.
They encouraged the students to embrace such forward-looking disciplines, emphasizing the role of girls in breaking stereotypes and driving inclusivity in the fields of science and technology.
Mrs. Mary Njogu, the school’s Chief Principal, expressed her gratitude to the Kenya Defence Forces for their continued support.
She highlighted the significance of the new subject in inspiring and equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the competitive aviation industry.
With this bold step, Moi Forces Academy-Lanet not only pioneers a new academic frontier but also sets the stage for a future where young women can lead confidently in STEM careers, particularly in aviation
