Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi has accused the government of orchestrating violence and intimidation in Kikuyu, warning that similar tactics could be deployed during future elections.
In a strongly worded statement, Muturi claimed that goons were deployed early to disrupt an opposition meeting, creating an atmosphere of fear before leaders could engage with residents.
He alleged that the chaos, followed by police intervention, was part of a calculated plan to derail a lawful political gathering.
“What unfolded in Kikuyu was carefully choreographed from the early hours of the morning,” he said, adding that the sequence of intimidation, violence, and crackdown pointed to a premeditated scheme.
The former Attorney General further warned that such tactics could be replicated during elections, particularly in opposition strongholds, to suppress voter turnout and influence outcomes through fear.
Muturi said the opposition is now mobilising its supporters to remain vigilant and resist intimidation, while also documenting alleged incidents for possible escalation to the international community.
“We are organizing at every level and ensuring that every act of intimidation is recorded,” he stated.
