4 sentenced to death over murder of former Kabete MP George Muchai

Four people convicted in the robbery with violence case linked to the killing of former Kabete MP George Muchai, his two bodyguards and a driver have been sentenced to death.

The convicts, Erick Munyera, Raphael Kimani, Mustafa Kimani and Stephen Asitiva, were found guilty on three counts and sentenced on Thursday, April 9.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said the case was proved beyond reasonable doubt, with 36 witnesses presenting evidence that placed the accused at the scene of the 2015 attacks.

Prosecutors told the court the group carried out a series of violent robberies while armed with a G3 rifle and pistols.

During the incidents on the nights of February 6 and 7, 2015, the attackers robbed victims of property valued at about KSh 1.1 million, including two vehicles, mobile phones, a laptop, a gas cylinder and cash. Authorities said the gang threatened victims with violence during the robberies.

In the same case, Jane Wanjiru and Margaret Njeri were each sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession of a firearm and ammunition. Muchai and his aides were shot dead at close range in Nairobi in what investigators described as a well-planned attack.
