The push to remake Nairobi’s city centre has taken a fresh turn with plans for a modern arena and entertainment district under the Nairobi Railway City Project.

The development, to be built in the central business district, is expected to transform the capital into a leading destination for sports, culture, entertainment and business in East Africa and beyond.

According to President William Ruto, the project will be implemented through a long-term partnership and is part of the government’s wider infrastructure agenda. It is also designed to complement other key developments, including Talanta Stadium and the Bomas International Convention Complex, as part of a broader urban ecosystem.

The plan was formalised at State House, Nairobi, where Zaria Group and Kenya Railways Corporation signed a lease agreement to kickstart the project.

“The construction of a modern arena and entertainment district in central Nairobi marks a significant milestone toward the realisation of the Nairobi Railway City Project. This development will position the capital’s CBD as a premier hub for sports, entertainment, culture, and commerce across East Africa and the world,” Ruto said.

Construction is expected to be completed within 12 months, with the initiative projected to generate up to 25,000 jobs annually.
