President William Ruto on Sunday toured Siaya County where he officially launched the Siaya Community Digital Hub in Bondo and addressed residents and traders in the town.

During the launch, the President said the government was prioritising programmes aimed at empowering young people through technology, innovation and employment opportunities.

“For far too long, our youth have been perceived as part of our country’s problems,” Ruto said. “Yet these young people; skilled, talented, innovative and energetic, are the solution to the challenges facing us.”

He added that the government had deliberately introduced measures to empower young people and create opportunities that would enable them to contribute to the country’s economic growth.

Ruto said initiatives such as community digital hubs were part of a broader plan aimed at equipping young people with digital skills while expanding access to technology across the country.

“We have put in place deliberate measures to empower our youth and create gainful employment for them,” he said.

The President later addressed a large crowd in Bondo town, where he reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring development projects reach all parts of the country.

“We will develop every part of Kenya as part of our plan to make our country more equal,” he told residents.

The visit drew a large crowd in Bondo, a region widely considered the political stronghold of the late opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Also present during the launch was Oburu Odinga, the Siaya Senator, who participated in the opening of the digital hub.

In a separate engagement, the President attended a church service hosted by Ida Odinga at an Anglican church in the area, where she serves as a church canon.

However, James Orengo, the Governor of Siaya County, did not attend the events.

His absence followed recent concerns he raised regarding the arrest of some county staff members, which he described as political intimidation.

Despite the governor’s absence, the President’s tour attracted significant public turnout as he continued to promote his administration’s development agenda in the region.
