Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse to move impeachment motion against Gachagua

Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse has announced plans to introduce an impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, a move that has sparked significant anxiety and reactions across Kenya.

The motion is scheduled to be tabled on Tuesday afternoon.

According to documents reviewed by Tukio.co.ke, Mwengi Mutuse is the primary sponsor of this motion, which he claims is rooted in allegations that Gachagua has violated Articles 150 and 145 of the Kenyan Constitution.

Article 150 outlines the procedure for the removal of a Deputy President, while Article 145 deals with the grounds for impeachment.

In a statement, Mwengi emphasized the importance of upholding the Constitution, stating, “The framers of our constitution must have intended the testing of every provision therein.”

He continued, “As part of my civic duty as a citizen and also as part of my role as MP, I will give notice of motion for the removal of the Deputy President from office, by impeachment, pursuant to Articles 150 and 145 of our Constitution.”

The MP has hinted at the seriousness of the evidence he plans to present, suggesting it will be shocking to the public.

“The evidence we shall table will shock Kenyans. Watch this space,” he warned, indicating that the upcoming proceedings could have far-reaching implications for the Deputy President and the current administration.

Political analysts have noted that this motion may reflect deeper political rifts within the government and could lead to a significant shift in the political landscape ahead of the next general elections.

Public reactions have been mixed, with some supporting the motion as a necessary check on executive power, while others view it as a politically motivated attack.
