President William Ruto has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to completing the Marua Interchange and the broader Kenol–Sagana–Marua dual carriageway by mid-2026, describing the project as a major boost to economic growth in the Mt. Kenya region.

Speaking during a three-day working tour of Nyeri County, the President addressed residents at the Marua Interchange, a key junction linking the Northern Corridor to the agriculturally productive Mt. Kenya region. He said delays caused by land compensation disputes had been resolved, allowing the project to move forward at full speed.

“The necessary resources have now been secured, and contractors have been directed to ensure the interchange is fully operational by June 2026,” President Ruto said.

The President emphasized that the 84-kilometre dual carriageway is not only a transport project but a key economic enabler. He noted that faster and more efficient travel to Nairobi would significantly reduce transport costs, enabling farmers in Nyeri, Kirinyaga and Murang’a counties to earn more from their produce.

“This road is about dignity and production. Lower transport costs mean more money in the pockets of our farmers,” he said.

In a major announcement, President Ruto revealed plans to extend the dualing of the road beyond Marua towards Nanyuki and Isiolo, a move aimed at integrating Northern Kenya more closely into the national trade and logistics network.

The President also highlighted the project’s role in job creation, noting that it has provided employment opportunities for thousands of young people. He linked the initiative to his Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, citing the ongoing NYOTA programme, which is disbursing grants of up to KSh50,000 to youth to support small business start-ups.

The visit is widely viewed as politically significant, coming at a time when the Mt. Kenya region remains central to national politics. Accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, President Ruto urged leaders to focus on development and service delivery rather than early succession politics.
