The State Department for Housing and Urban Development has launched a three-day induction programme for newly recruited interns ahead of their deployment to affordable and institutional housing projects across the country in January 2026.
The interns are part of the first cohort under the Affordable Housing Programme, with 5,000 graduates qualifying for the one-year internship aimed at strengthening implementation capacity for the government’s housing agenda.
Speaking during the induction, Central Region Affordable Housing Coordinator Albert Gakuru said the government is counting on the interns to play a critical role in delivering its ambitious infrastructure and housing development targets.
“This programme is designed not only to support ongoing housing projects but also to equip young professionals with practical skills and hands-on experience in the construction and housing sector,” Gakuru said.
The interns will be attached to various housing and institutional development sites nationwide, where they are expected to support project execution, monitoring and community engagement.
The Affordable Housing Programme is a key pillar of the government’s development strategy, aimed at addressing the country’s housing deficit while creating employment opportunities for young graduates.
