Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, has urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and uphold high hygiene standards as the festive season approaches.

Speaking during a morning interview with Capital FM, Muthoni said the Ministry of Health has intensified efforts to strengthen disease surveillance, emergency preparedness, and hygiene enforcement across the country to safeguard public health during the holidays.

She noted that the Ministry is closely monitoring public health surveillance at ports of entry to prevent cross-border disease threats, while also enhancing occupational health and safety measures for workers across various sectors.

“We are committed to safeguarding Kenyans’ health during this festive period. Everyone must take personal responsibility by maintaining cleanliness in their homes and surroundings,” Muthoni said.

She emphasized the importance of personal, environmental, and water hygiene, as well as proper sanitation, in preventing disease outbreaks.

The PS also cautioned the public to consume only inspected meat and food products, especially during the festive celebrations when cases of foodborne illnesses tend to rise.

“Health and safety begin with each individual’s actions. Together, we can ensure a healthy and joyful festive season,” she added.
