Track legend Faith Kipyegon has made record of the fastest mile ever run by a woman though she lost the mythical sub-four minutes mile barrier by six seconds at Stade Charléty in Paris.

The triple Olympic champion ran 4:06.42 smashing her own world mark of 4:07.64 by 01:22 seconds.

She made history becoming the first woman to run a mile in less than four minutes in Paris.

Kipyegon–backed by cutting-edge pacing technology, aerodynamic Nike kit, and precision pacemakers, was taking part in the “Breaking4” project, an attempt to crack the sub four-minute mile, backed by sportswear company, Nike.

“It is only a matter of time a woman will run under 4 minutes. I will not lose hope. I will still go for it. I hope I will get one day. I have proved to the world it is possible” she said after the race.

The 31-year-old was set to run a steady pace of 59.75, seconds for every 400m in the one-mile course, which is equivalent to 1600m.
