The National Police Service (NPS) Kabaddi teams have retained their dominance in East Africa after successfully defending both the men’s and women’s titles at the 2026 East Africa Kabaddi Inter-Clubs Championship in Bujumbura, Burundi.

The championship, held from August 27 to 28, saw the NPS men’s team extend its unbeaten regional run to five years. In the men’s final, the Kenyan side delivered a commanding performance to defeat the Burundi National Team 45–28 and retain the trophy.

The NPS women’s team also held onto its crown after edging the Burundi women’s team 65–60 in a closely contested final.

The Kenyan men further demonstrated their strength during a beach Kabaddi friendly hosted by Burundi along the shores of Lake Tanganyika, defeating the hosts 45–25.

The championship brought together teams from across East Africa and was attended by Burundi’s Director of Sports, Mathias Manirakiza, Burundi Kabaddi Federation President Wege Fiacre and World Kabaddi Federation Deputy Secretary General Perpetual Mbutu.

The NPS teams will now turn their attention to the Africa Kabaddi Championship scheduled for October, where they will represent Kenya in both men’s and women’s categories.
