The government and AMSONS Group has announced a groundbreaking collaboration, to develop 10 state-of-the-art “mother-and-child” hospitals nationwide. President William Ruto witnessed the ceremony at State House Nairobi.

Addressing the signing ceremony, the head of state emphasized that jointly working with this partnership will lead to greater gains in improving maternal and newborn care that will eventually contribute to the reduction of maternal and newborn deaths and saving the lives of mothers and babies.

He referred to it as an important step in strengthening the Kenyan healthcare system. As part of the partnership, AMSONS Group will inject a sum of KSh4.5 billion in the form of grants that will facilitate the development of the hospitals.

The establishments will be situated in the counties of Nairobi Kwale Kisumu, Uasain Gishu, West Pokot Mombasa Garissa, Embu and Nakuru, covering both city and semi-urban areas.

Every hospital will be provided with antenatal care units, maternal intensive care units labour delivery and recovery units, two operating theatres and other essential modes of health services.

Also, the government and AMSONS Group are considering plans to extend the scheme by building 14 more hospitals, increasing access to quality maternal health care services.
