After six years of life abroad, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are planning to move back to Britain with their children after the couple stepped back from official duties and fell out with other members of the royal family.

Prince Harry and Meghan said are ready to relocate later this month to a private residence outside London and have enrolled their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in British schools for the coming term in September.

According to reports, King Charles was informed of the relocation on August 16, 2026, and welcomed the opportunity to spend more time with the Sussex family in private and personal capacity.

King Charles has made clear there will be no changes to the Duke and Duchess’s role as private individuals and non-working members of the royal family.

The Sussex’s, who currently live in California, left Britain in 2020 after stepping back from royal duties; that cited relentless press intrusion, tensions, racism and complex family dynamics are among the reasons for their departure.

In California, they purchased a $14.7 million mansion in Montecito, signing lucrative media deals with Netflix and Spotify. While still living in there, Harry made several trips to the UK, including the funeral of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, in 2022 and the coronation of his father, King Charles III, in 2021.

Despite their relocation, Harry and Meghan they will raise their children in an environment near the royal family, without being involved in the royal duties.
