Two people lost their lives, and five others sustained injuries in a head-on collision along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway on Sunday, January 5.
The crash, which occurred near the Prison Bridge in Naivasha, involved an Eldoret Shuttle Nissan matatu and a public service vehicle bus.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus was en route to Nairobi, while the matatu was traveling in the opposite direction.
Emergency responders rushed the injured to Naivasha Level 4 Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were moved to the mortuary, awaiting postmortem examinations by a government pathologist.
Motorists have been urged to exercise caution and avoid speeding, particularly as traffic increases with people returning to the city ahead of school reopening.
This accident adds to Kenya’s troubling road safety record. Between January and November last year, 4,282 people died in road accidents, according to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
Pedestrians accounted for 1,637 of these fatalities, followed by motorcyclists (1,045), passengers (788), and drivers (369).
Authorities continue to emphasize the need for strict adherence to traffic rules to prevent further tragedies on the roads.
