President William Ruto has handed former Ol Kalou parliamentary candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah a new role just days after he lost the constituency by election to Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho.
Muchina announced on Tuesday that the President had asked him to oversee the implementation of key national government projects in Ol Kalou to ensure residents continue benefiting from development despite the election outcome.
“I have accepted the responsibility of supervising these projects to ensure they are completed for the benefit of the people of Ol Kalou,” Muchina said after meeting President Ruto at State House.
According to Muchina, the projects include the completion of 36 rural electrification projects, drilling of boreholes in every ward, construction of houses for vulnerable families, the upgrade of JM Hospital to a Level Five facility, road projects, a constituency stadium and the establishment of a university.
He said the President assured him that all the planned projects would proceed as promised.
“The people of Ol Kalou deserve development. These projects will continue because they are meant to improve the lives of residents,” Muchina said.
The appointment comes days after Muchina suffered defeat in the closely watched by election, which was won by DCP’s Sammy Kamau Ngotho.
The contest was widely seen as a political battle between President Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, whose party backed the winning candidate.
Despite the loss, Ruto’s decision to assign Muchina the oversight role signals the government’s intention to keep its development agenda on course in the constituency.
The move also ensures the former UDA candidate remains actively involved in government programmes in Ol Kalou even after missing out on the parliamentary seat.
