The Ministry of Health has kicked off preparations for the Presidential National Health Summit 2026 following the first meeting of the National Planning Committee chaired by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.
The summit is expected to bring together leaders, health experts, development partners and other stakeholders to review the progress of Kenya’s health reforms, discuss emerging challenges and map out the next phase of efforts towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
As per the ministry, the conference will offer the chance to evaluate the changes brought about in the areas of health financing, primary health care, digital health, governance, legislation and regulations. The conference will also aim to build consensus on the way forward to make priority reforms needed in the improvement of the health system of the country.
During the first planning meeting of the summit, Duale noted the importance of the upcoming event to the health sector and asked all committees involved in the preparation of the summit to make sure that the summit comes up with concrete achievements and recommendations to be used in future reforms.
He noted that the summit will come up with the status of the transformation of the health sector as well as encouraging innovation, accountability and coordination of institutions.
CS Duale also thanked the development and implementation partners, noting that cooperation is important in bringing about sustainable health reforms and realization of the UHC goals of the country.
The planning meeting was attended by Medical Services Principal Secretary Dr. Ouma Oluga, Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni, Director-General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, senior ministry officials, heads of directorates, technical teams and chief executive officers of state corporations and health sector agencies.
