The Officer-in-Charge (OCS) of the Zimmerman Police Post in Kasarani Division has been sentenced to two consecutive one-year jail terms or a total fine of Ksh 650,000 after being found guilty of corruption.

Police Inspector Susan Wambui Muiruri appeared before Magistrate Isabella Baraza at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on Friday, where she was convicted.

She was fined Ksh 300,000 or sentenced to one year in jail for the first count.

For the second count, she received a similar sentence along with an additional mandatory fine of Ksh 50,000.

The case centered on allegations that Muiruri had unlawfully detained suspects at the police post. Investigations revealed that she had solicited a bribe of Ksh 10,000 to mediate between a complainant and a suspect.

Additionally, the complainant was forced to pay Ksh 150,000 without any legitimate reason.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has once again stressed the importance of integrity among public officials, reminding them that they hold positions of trust on behalf of the people.

The commission continues to warn against corrupt practices, such as bribery, that undermine governance and impede national development.

Corruption, regardless of its scale, has severe consequences, including higher living costs, weakened rule of law, poor infrastructure, rising unemployment, and delays or denials of justice.

Muiruri’s conviction serves as a clear message that individuals involved in corrupt activities will be held accountable to the full extent of the law.
