Kenya Amature Wrestling Association (KAWA) second edition of the East Africa Championships will take place from August 9 to 10th in Nairobi.
KAWA Secretary General Erick Walucho said the regional event will be participated in the freestyle and the beach wrestling styles, has already been confirmed and sanctioned by the world Amature Wrestling governing body, United World Wrestling (UWW) with already six countries ready, and three more awaiting their government approvals.
” We are all systems go in August for the second edition of this event. Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Sudan, Mauritius and us the hosts are ready while Cape Verde, Zambia and South Africa have asked for a little more time to work out on their logistics before finally confirming their participation,” said Walucho.

South African wrestling titan Charles Villet will conduct the referee courses while Kouadio Vincent Aka-Akesse, an Ivorian born France heavyweight wrestling Olympian will be in charge of coaching ahead of the event.
Kenya already has two lead referees Benson Mwai and Anderson Ombungu who attained their top-level certificates last year.
KAWA hopes that more referees from Kenya will attain those standards in addition to the many individuals that are now showing interest in coaching wrestling.
