World record holder Agnes Ngetich secured second place in the women’s 3000m at the Grand Slam Track event in Kingston, Jamaica on Friday evening.
Ngetich completed the race in 8:28.75, with Ethiopia’s Ejgayehu Taye taking the win in 8:28.42.
Another Ethiopian, Tsige Gebreselama, finished third with a time of 8:38.15, while Kenyan Hellen Ekalale, based in Japan, placed fourth in 8:42.51.
This race marked Ngetich’s second of the year, following her victory in the senior women’s 10km at the Sirikwa Classic World Cross Country Tour in February, where she clocked 32:42.
It was also her first track event since August 2023, when she finished sixth in the women’s 10,000m at the World Championships in Budapest with a time of 31:34.83.
At 24 years old, Ngetich is focused on securing a podium finish at this year’s World Championships in Tokyo in September.
In other events, World 800m champion Mary Moraa had a disappointing performance, finishing eighth in the women’s 800m with a time of 2:00.97.
American Nikki Hiltz won the race in 1:58.23, followed by Ethiopian Diribe Welteji (1:58.29) and Australian Jessica Hull (1:58.58) in second and third.

Ethiopia’s Ejgayehu Taye won the race.
Kenyan Susan Ejore finished fifth in 1:59.26.
In the men’s 5000m, Olympic silver medalist Ronald Kwemoi placed fifth with a time of 14:40.64.
American Grant Fisher claimed the win in 14:39.14, narrowly edging out teammates Cooper Teare (14:39.31) and Dylan Jacobs (14:39.56), who finished second and third, respectively.
The Grand Slam, created by former American sprinter Michael Johnson, is a premier track event series featuring top athletes from around the world.
The next event is set to take place from May 2-4 at the Ansin Sports Complex in Miami.
