A 25-year-old woman’s international travel plans were abruptly grounded after Anti-Narcotics Unit detectives at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) intercepted her with 1.3 kilograms of cocaine moments before takeoff.
Caroline Wanjiku Mwangi was attempting to board a flight to Goa, India, when she was flagged for a routine security check by the vigilant officers. Upon inspection of her luggage, detectives discovered two suspicious bags hidden within her suitcase.
Inside the concealed bags was a white powdery substance, tightly wrapped in yellow cellotape. Field tests quickly confirmed the substance to be cocaine, weighing approximately 1.3 kilograms.
Wanjiku was immediately taken into custody and is currently being held at the JKIA Police Station as investigators process her case. She is expected to appear in court soon. The confiscated narcotics have been secured as evidence.
Authorities commended the sharp eye and diligence of the Anti-Narcotics officers, reaffirming their commitment to combating drug trafficking through Kenya’s main airports.
“This arrest sends a clear message—Kenya is not a transit point for drugs, and those who try will be caught,” said a senior officer at the airport.
Wanjiku’s Goa getaway has turned into a high-security layover behind bars, pending legal proceedings.
