President William Ruto has praised the Supreme Court for being a firm custodian of the Constitution, a defender of human rights and a pillar of democracy.
He made the remarks while presiding over the conference, celebrating 12 years after the court’s establishment.
In his speech, President Ruto insisted that the Supreme Court’s sustained capacity to resolve complex constitutional matters is critical to the nation’s institutional vitality.
"The Supreme Court has pronounced itself on a broad range of pertinent issues across the legal landscape and, in so doing, entrenched certain principles and values as non-negotiable procedural and substantive elements of good policy," said Ruto.
He also reiterated his government’s commitment to partnering with the judicial fraternity in building a more accessible, empathetic, and efficient judicial ecosystem that delivers justice to all in a timely, fair, effective and accessible manner.
However, while at it, the president challenged the Chief Justice Martha Koome led court to renew its vigour in shaping the constitutional landscape.
"As the Court journeys through its jurisprudential mandate, we invite it to renew its vigour in shaping our constitutional landscape. It must stay agile, forward-thinking, innovative and accountable to meeting the ever-evolving and complex challenges of our time," he added.
