After being sworn in as Kenya’s third Deputy President,Prof.Kithure Kindiki made history of being the first Kenyan from minority tribes to take as the principal assistant to the President. This is both under the old and the current constitution.
It is not easy in a country where the big five tribes have always been favoured for similar positions.Today, the country has the opportunity to witness how Kindiki will step into this position that has so far been full of turbulence and political drama.
Prof. Kindiki should,by every means possible avoid avoid presenting himself as a Tharaka Nithi or Mount Kenya East leader. He should not even worry about battling to be recognised as the larger Mount Kenya spokesman.
His focus for now should be about elevating the position of the Deputy President to a national office unlike what it was under his predecessor Rigathi Gachagua. He should address himself to the rest of the country and win over hearts across all corners.
Secondly,he should make some international presence and help the President in some of the foreign trade related trips. We have hardly seen his predecessor travel outside the country for reasons only known to him.
Thirdly, like the President said, his voice on government policies and programs should be heard and must be consistent. He should not seat on the fence when things are boiling then play to the public gallery later on.

The good professor must also make alot of political friends across the country because his position allows him to.
Once he does all these, the politics of Mount Kenya will with time fall into his arms but it won’t be easy
