The Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation has opened discussions with Strathmore University on potential areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening research, capacity building and national development.
Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eng. Eric Mugaa hosted a delegation from the university at Maji House in Nairobi for talks on ways the two institutions can work together.
The delegation was led by Strathmore University Chairperson Bernadette Musundi and included Vice Chancellor Dr Vincent Ogutu, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Partnerships and Development Dr Edward Mungai, among other university officials.
“We explored avenues for collaboration between the University and the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, underscoring the critical contribution of institutions of higher learning to research, capacity building, and the broader advancement of national development,”statement read.
The discussions highlighted the role of institutions of higher learning in supporting government programmes through research, innovation, skills development and capacity building.
Mugaa said collaboration between the Ministry and universities could help strengthen evidence-based policymaking while contributing to solutions to challenges facing the water, sanitation and irrigation sector.
The engagement comes as the government continues to seek partnerships with academic and research institutions to support national development initiatives.
